Leave It To Oniichan ♡ – Attack on Titan S4 Ep 18 Review

Reiner and Porco attempt to overwhelm Eren, who cries out while awaiting oniichan Zeke’s arrival. This is a review and discussion for AoT S4 Episode 18.

Check out our previous episode review here.

I’m so excited to see the reaction of everyone who fell for Gabi’s redemption speech when the next episode hits.

Seriously though, another great episode.

A lot of set up, and a small recap kind of cut down the runtime, but overall, it was satisfying to see everything animated. Zeke’s 2D titan looks great, and the fight scene between Reiner and Eren was adapted very well.

There were a number of anime-only scenes to analyze, so let’s get started on those.

The interaction between Louise and Mikasa was painful to watch because for whatever reason, Mikasa always treats her like crap.
Mikasa treats Gabi better than she treats Louise, who is actually her comrade, and cares about both Mikasa and Eren. It’s such a shame. Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 18

For those of you who may not remember, Louise is the little girl who thanked Mikasa in Season One when the Reeves Company cart was blocking the exit in Trost. Louise was also shown again earlier this season, when she tried to bandage Sasha’s wound on the retreating airship.

I’m wondering if we’ll get additional dialogue when the two end up meeting again. It’s something to look forward to.

We got the scene of Nile walking Falco to his older brother Colt, and Gabi stopping Colt from firing on them. The scene plays out exactly as the manga, but I believe Gabi has some new dialogue, in addition to the addition of bird cages.

Gabi mentions the perpetual cycle of violence, and how her actions aided it – but there is a huge focus on the birdcages.

There is a new added scene of Sasha’s death as a flashback, and Gabi holds her head and says (they keep) “doing the same things…over and over!” before we get a shot of Falco with the black armband in the forefront, and a shot of an open birdcage door.

Now, here me out…I think this is an analogy.

Ex: Falco says lots of people were slaughtered as various cages suspended from the ceiling are shown.

An analogy for the many times Eren has restarted the timeline, and that in this timeline he will finally be free – just like the ending theme changing from a birdcage to the scenery of an abandoned Paradis Island.

Gabi and Falco have cages above them, while Colt is partially caught in a cage. Very nice foreshadowing. From AoT Season 4, Episode 18

I know most of you have no clue what I’m rambling on about, but if you’re interested – look into the AnR (Akatsuki no Requiem) theory on Reddit.

Continuing on, Gabi then tears off Falco’s black armband, reminiscent of how Falco tore off Gabi’s Eldian armband when they arrived on Paradis.

Falco removes Gabi's armband in episode 12, Gabi removes Falco's armband in episode 18. From the Attack on Titan anime. (Signifies children leaving the forest?)

And lastly, the amazing emergence of Chaos Goddess Yelena!

In the manga, Yelena was actually just sitting on a ledge watching all of the chaos unfold by the time The Alliance of Good Eldians get up the stairs. She was standing earlier, but the scenes were re-arranged and are adapted out of order.

(I guess to leave room for the scene of Mikasa and Armin discussing her headaches?)

Then we got that amazing scene of Yelena seeing straight through Armin’s lie.

Hands down one of the best Yelena scenes (for me) adapted from the manga brilliantly. SnK Ch 118

I hope that if we do indeed get an Anime Original Ending, someone calls Armin out on that.

Because Armin constantly pulls a stunt, gets away with it, and tries the exact same thing at a later time and fails epically.

Case and point:

Trying to convince Bertholdt that Annie is being tortured by the military in Season Three

Trying to Lie to Yelena a second time Season Four

Trying to defend Eren and take responsibility by lying to a hostile military in Season One…

And with that, I think I’ll wrap this review up for now.

But, tell me your thoughts.

The Prodigal Daughter, Our Chaos Goddess has returned.
The Prodigal Daughter, Our Chaos Goddess has returned

Do you think Marley has the upper hand in their cowardly sneak attack in conjunction with the Global Allied Forces?

Is Porco the most useless wingman to ever enter battle?

And why is Reiner is so determined to end Eren when it won’t end the war?

Leave your thoughts in the comment section below, we’d love to hear from you! Also be sure to follow us for more weekly Attack on Titan the Final Season reviews and discussions!
