Master of the Underworld – Ousama Ranking Ep 10 Review

As Bojji finishes his Underworld training, conspiracy blossoms in his kingdom. This is a review and discussion for Ousama Ranking Episode 10.

Check out our previous episode review here

I knew that with a dumptruck made of gold, Despa would not let us down! ☺

Seriously though all jokes aside – I’m glad that Despa believed in Bojji’s strength.

After all, he even took on and gave a group of underworld guards a run for their money!

I’m pretty sure they mentioned in-story that those guards patrol the gates of hell – so maybe that still we got of Bojji defeating a multi-eyed beast with the Ranking of Kings music playing in the background might be foreshadowing?

Domas and Hokuro are on a journey to close the entrance to the underworld, after all. Maybe this was a glimpse of the final boss? Or, Miranjo’s actual form? Or Bosse’s – way too many possibilities when it comes to this show, haha.

I wonder what he would choose from the (royal) vault – I’m more than certain it wouldn’t be the gift that drove all of the past king’s crazy.

(Hey just thinking – is that where Bosse got the mirror from? I know only monarchs in first place receive a gift but…you never know.)

Wow, I am just so impressed with this show. Seriously – it is the highlight of my week.

(Even if I rarely review it on time 😅)

So, what else – we got the reveal that Mitsumata is the one who taught Bojji how to dodge, and read lips. I have no clue why Bebin would suggest that people at court were unhappy to learn that. I mean as far as we could tell – nobody actively knew Bojji understood what they were saying.

Hiling might have realized after their last (poor) interaction, but everyone else was actively learning sign language to communicate with him. Unless…that was a triple 4D chess move to confuse the young prince.

I jest. (but not really)

I can’t figure out why that would be a problem, though.  Unless there was an agenda to keep Bojji “dumb” at court?

Maybe this could hint at the ‘conspiracy’ brewing in the kingdom Bebin told Kage about?

So I know my image placement is all over the place this review but - did you guys take a look at some of the background characters in the underworld bar brawl scene? Like...a vampire lady, a monk, and a guy with a pumpkin head? Like...an actual pumpkin with a stylish messenger bag is watching Bojji take down a giant oaf masquerading as a petty thief - hang on. Did Despa pay off the guy who shouted the trio's name out? Or, are they on an undercover assignment and Despa blew their cover? Or, has Despa been planning this the whole time? The layers at play here...

(forget my original point, it’s not important now haha)

I can understand Queen Hiling’s reason for this – to ‘protect’ Bojji from harm so that he could have a peaceful life. As for Domas, well – he secretly supported Daida and literally went as far as pushing Bojji off a cliff to prove his loyalty and duty to the kingdom.

King Bosse…ultimately wanted Bojji to be king, as did Apeas along with one other knight.

Was it Dorshe? I can’t remember.

Wait no, it wasn’t Dorshe, as we all thought he was still “evil” back then since Hiling’s actual character was yet to be revealed.

It was the other guy who left the kingdom I think…I don’t know.

That’s the problem with watching too many other shows at once while trying to enjoy a seasonal anime – the details all blur together over time. Not to say that Ousama Ranking isn’t unique – it totally is, despite being a very formulaic “Hero’s Journey” fairytale with fleshed out, morally grey characters.

Anywho, I should probably begin wrapping it up here.

It’s understandable that Bojji is afraid to return home due to believing Domas, Hokuro, and Queen Hiling had conspired to kill him. When in reality, Hiling and Hokuro would never do such a thing, and Domas was only acting on orders from the reigning king – Bojji’s own little brother, Daida.

That’s going to be a bit of a shock for Bojji when he finds that out.

But, tell me your thoughts.

I absolutely adore this shot from this perspective. Bojji looks like a flower growing stronger each day, while others blow in the wind. Ousama Ranking Ep 10

Do you think Bebin is in Bojji’s corner so to speak because of Mitsumata’s prophecy?

Was Miranjou along with the magic mirror part of Bosse’s gift for coming in the top 10 for the Ranking of Kings? Because otherwise…. did Bosse really just decide to build a kingdom on an entranceway to the Underworld?

Or maybe…a Kingdom ON TOP of ancient ruins with a path LEADING to the Underworld in his search for power?

I write in my personal time and I haven't published much at all. I don't know if that qualifies me as a writer or not, but I'd like to change that. I have a deep passion for travel, cinema and (mainly) East Asian things, but I plan on writing various things to keep it spicy. Let's prosper together ~ よろしくおねがいします。
