I’m sorry, but A Sign of Affection is unexpectedly romantic and it’s driving me crazy. I feel like a schoolgirl again, sighing and looking lovingly at everything Itsuomi does. I can only imagine how Yuki feels, since every time a new girl shows up and is friendly toward him I am also looking at them funny haha.

A Sign of Affection Episode 3 Review

There was so much progress in Itsuomi and Yuki’s relationship this episode it was actually insane!

Itsuomi Wants to Learn Sign Language?

Yuki took the time to create Itsuomi a manga-style sign language book and it was the cutest thing! Although I also felt disheartened when he said he might not use it, it seems like Itsuomi is a more… hands-on type of guy because wow…did you see how much Itsuomi touched Yuki in this episode?

The head pats apparently can also mean you are calling somebody “cute” in sign language, so that may explain her reactions to that (and just a near-stranger continually entering your personal space and touching you in Japan) and why she turns into a tomato each time Itsuomi does it.

But then Itsuomi takes it up 5 notches and starts cupping Yuki’s face and pulling her close to him…which even had Rin and Kyouya shocked at the Rockin Robin restaurant! So I’m guessing judging by Kyouya’s reaction…Itsuomi doesn’t usually do that sort of thing? Because that wasn’t even flirting at that point it was almost a full-on seduction and as somebody watching through a computer screen, I was completely here for it.

I mean wow…I kind of trashed Solo Leveling but the latest episode had me staring at Sung Jin Woo differently, and now Itsuomi is pulling out an entire bag of tricks on Yuki and if loving him is wrong…then I don’t want Yuki to be right! ☺

Oushi Brings the Salt

The universe must have sensed that Yuki was having a little too much fun and sent Oushi along to quell it.

Because man is Oushi a buzzkill and I kind of dislike every time he’s on screen because he is so negative and acts hurtful to Yuki. And that’s not even me being a ‘fangirl’ and overanalyzing everything – narratively speaking it seems like Yuki literally feels like Oushi has always treated her unkindly.

Yuki decided to meet Itsuomi late at night maybe 2 hours before curfew (which I’m not knocking because I’ve had those nights too where I just wanted to see someone I loved and those short hours were electric the entire time – which Yuki experienced in the laundromat with Itsuomi) and runs into Oushi at a crossroad on the street.

Oushi…being the emotionally stunted guy that he is, decides to throw tissues at the back of Yuki’s head while she’s running down the street at night. Mind you, Oushi is the guy who told Rin (who then told Itsuomi) that Yuki “apparently” gets “startled” if you sneak up on her (which Yuki never stated – Oushi just said that and assumed it was true because Yuki’s deaf).

Yuki, literally dumbfounded that somebody is throwing tissues at her in the dark when she’s running to see her crush, tries to ignore it and keep going.

Oushi then THROWS ANOTHER PACKET OF TISSUES AT THE BACK OF YUKI’S HEAD to get her attention and immediately starts interrogating her on where she’s going and what she’s doing out at night. Yuki casually tells Oushi that she’s going out to meet a friend and her mom already knows and tries to keep going (which is a reasonable and normal response to a ‘friend’).

Oushi, not taking that as enough of an answer, continually badgers Yuki about who she is seeing and then proceeds to ask if it’s Itsuomi and when Yuki confirms, decides to PUT YUKI DOWN by implying Itsuomi would never take Yuki seriously because she’s deaf, and if that’s not the case he’s just humoring Yuki’s feelings because he’s getting off on the fact that he’s such a “nice guy” (which seems to be Oushi projecting a bit but whatever).

Why is Oushi trying so hard to lower Yuki’s self-esteem? That still won’t give Oushi a chance with her.

Laundromat Dating with Itsuomi

Now nearly on the verge of tears due to Oushi’s vile words, Yuki arrives at the laundromat nearly out of breath. Itsuomi doesn’t say a word, and gets up to hand her a drink. Then, Itsuomi asks Yuki for some money because he also wants to buy one for himself and at that point – Itsuomi completely captured the moment for both myself and Yuki.

Not only did he use the last of his Japanese change to buy Yuki a drink, then he weirdly started to open up (I guess the nighttime air in wintertime does something) and started pulling her closer and speaking different languages and there were a whole lot of mixed signals being thrown out in the moment.

Especially with Itsuomi telling Yuki about his personal history but her not realizing because she couldn’t hear him. I don’t know why Itsuomi is abroad so often or why he felt the need to speak German (du bist süß apparently means “you are sweet”) but clearly Itsuomi wants to open up to Yuki as much as Yuki wants to open up to him.

Apparently, it wasn’t just Yuki who immediately felt a bond that day on the train, and it’s a shame that she doesn’t know because she couldn’t hear him but also beautiful in a way. It’s going to be really sweet when Yuki learns Itsuomi might be just as crazy about her as Yuki is about him. And I’m totally excited to see it!

But, tell me your thoughts.

Will Emma cause problems for Itsuomi and Yuki’s relationship? What is going on with Kyouya and Rin? Should Oushi try being nice to Yuki instead of acting like a jaded shrew?
