Wow, I don’t know if Subaru is lucky because both Kaoruko and Rintaro are so understanding, or if it’s because the latter two’s bond is so strong that they won’t allow others to get in the way of it.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 6 Review

So, it was confirmed that not only does Subaru have an inferiority complex – she also has an identity crisis. It seems like Subaru literally has no hobbies outside of hanging out with Kaoruko, and has modeled her entire personality and appearance based on an idealized version of herself that Kaoruko would approve of.
I would say that this is sad, but in reality Subaru acknowledges that living like that is a mistake, and is slowly trying to change.
And you know what? I think it might actually work. Based on Subaru realizing that Kaoruko likes Rintaro, and that Rintaro is a kind and understanding person as well who doesn’t want to uproot friendships like Subaru from Kaoruko’s life, I think Subaru taking the first step forward with Rintaro by proposing that they one day become friends despite him being from Chidori was a massive step forward for her own personal development.

Although…am I the only one who was kind of getting shoujo romance vibes from their interactions towards the end of that episode? Then we had the Yusuke kid from the café appear again and propose that Subaru and Rintaro must be really good friends – when in reality I swear the kid was going to say he thought they were dating.
(Also, what on earth is Yusuke eating that he kicked the ball that hard and winded a large high school boy? He can’t be more than an elementary school student – or even a first year middle school student (at the very oldest).
Judging by the opening, Rintaro and Kaoruko’s friend groups do end up hanging out together and becoming friends, but I wasn’t sure how it would happen until now.
It is nice that Subaru came clean to Kaoruko about everything and didn’t let the guilt of what she’d done fester into bitterness and paranoia like it was beginning to had she not spoken up sooner.

I like how mature all of these high school students are. They are very in tune with their feelings and why they are doing certain things – even if their actions don’t fully align with their internal dialogue, they will point it out an episode or two later and apologize for acting like trash.
If only more (shonen) romance anime had these kid’s self-awareness and gumption!
But, tell me your thoughts: do you think Kaoruko realizes that Subaru loves her but does erratic things based on her inferiority complex? Did you also get the vibes that Rintaro and Subaru could possibly have a romance in another lifetime?
