China’s first contemporary national-security film titled Scare Out was created under the guidance of the Ministry of State Security of the People’s Republic of China, and will debut in theatres during the 2026 Lunar New Year.

Directed by Zhang Yimou, the Movie features a stellar cast including Jackson Yee, Yilong Zhu, Jia Song, Jiayin Lei, Mi Yang, Yi Zhang, Cecelia Liu, and Yaowen Liu. AMTD is a co-production company of the Movie, with Dr. Calvin Choi, founder of AMTD IDEA, AMTD Digital, and TGE, serving as a co-producer.
Trust vs. Betrayal: The High-Stakes Plot of the First National Security Thriller
The film itself centres around a team of undercover national security officers who live and conduct work under assumed identities:

The announcement and promotional materials for Scare Out have generated substantial buzz and reached a total audience of 2.47 billion. It has secured the No.1 spot on the real-time popularity chart with 1.18 billion views on Douyin, and holds the No.2 spot on the Weibo movie list.

Scare Out will release in theatres on February 17th in China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Ireland, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR will premiere on February 28, with more countries and regions to be announced.
