A Silly Fugitive Girl – Mugen no Juunin Episode 9 Review

This is a review of Blade of the Immortal or Mugen no Juunin episode nine.

Check out last week’s episode eight review here.

Well alright, I’m on team Rin again.

I am so surprised that she actually pulled it off. She got out of the city, and didn’t have to rely on anyone else’s help to do so. Is Rin finally evolving? I don’t know. What I do know is that she is finally using her own personal strengths to get by. Something she should have been doing this entire time, but I’m glad Rin figured out what works for her and what doesn’t.

At this point in time, training with swords or heavy blunt weapons wouldn’t work well. But her precise, lightweight, throwing knives? Perfect.

That little bit of acting she did in front of the Commissioner that most likely knew she was still lying? Spectacular.

Now that, is finally the commitment Rin has been lacking this entire time. Instead of crying and relying on Manji for help, she took charge of her own situation. Her own life. And she played her role to a T.

I don’t really have much else to say right now about this episode. Mainly I am happy Rin is actually finally trying. And all it took was a few dead bodies, a now crippled prostitute, and a wanted posted for her to get it together.

This show tends to piss me off, but in a good way. I love the realism, the fully fleshed-out multidimensional characters, and the era the story is placed in.

However, I usually come into these reviews expecting the least from our plucky protagonist. After all, I’ve been actively rooting for The Greatest Kagehisa.

I want to go onto the next episode since it’s out, and I’m playing catch up tonight.

From larva, to caterpillar, to butterfly. As seen in Blade of the Immortal episode 9.

Were you surprised by Rin’s sudden gumption? Is it refreshing to not have Manji the bodyguard around? Do you think Shira will ever get caught?

I write in my personal time and I haven't published much at all. I don't know if that qualifies me as a writer or not, but I'd like to change that. I have a deep passion for travel, cinema and (mainly) East Asian things, but I plan on writing various things to keep it spicy. Let's prosper together ~ よろしくおねがいします。
