It is no secret that trading cards and collectibles are currently all the rage on social media and beyond. Almost every day, it seems like another company or brand is launching an exclusive TCG for their dedicated fans to enjoy.

While there is a lot of noise in the tabletop gaming space, there are more than a few genuinely interesting cards on offer for fans and newbie collectors alike from differing fandoms to check out.

20 Years of NYCC: The Explosion of Trading Cards & Floor Exclusives

After New York Comic Con, I ended the weekend with more than a few new starter pieces for my emerging decks, and I wanted to share with you some of the unique cards I received, and let you know where to find them should you wish to start a collection for yourself.

High-Grade Grails & Booth Promos: CGC, VeeFriends, & Dragon Ball

Pulling a pristine-graded Pokémon card or scoring a limited-run Bandai promo transforms the bustling show floor into a high-stakes treasure hunt, anchoring fandom in physical, authenticated history.

Here’s all of the exciting cards we grabbed on the Show Floor.

CGC Blind Bin Giveaway: Scoring a Pristine Pigeon

Amidst the vast ocean of freebies and events for NYCC’s 20th anniversary celebration, CGC was giving away one free graded card (per show) based on which pin you chose from a blind bin. I got a “Pristine 10” pin, and was given an 8.5 NM/Mint+ graded Pidove Pokémon card.

Which I thought was completely appropriate: to be given a high-tier pigeon card while at a NY Comic Con.

VeeFriends: Decisive Duck & Mini Sticker Collectibles

VeeFriends offered a New York Comic Con exclusive mini sticker to visitors at their booth. There were 10 characters to collect in total, and I ended up receiving a ‘Decisive Duck’ mini sticker (tie-dye rarity) with a mini sticker sheet that introduced the rest of the crew.

VeeFriends offers super stickers, mini stickers, trading cards, comic books, and more! There are also 8 other mini stickers to collect that were released in 2024 and are waiting to be added to your collection!

Keepsake Trading Cards gave away Invincible VS cards as a winnable prize if you spun a wheel. I received an Invincible VS, VS-6 Robot card.

AR-Enabled Horrors: Deddy Bears TCG Sample Pack Unboxing

The Pop Insider had multiple booths dedicated to different fandoms, and one of them was Deddy Bears! I saw the Deddy Bear Display Window Coffin Plushies at The Toy Insider’s Sweet Suite over the summer, and learned at their NYCC booth that the cards were a new release.

The game has 110 cards in total, and it is a hybrid mix of a TCG that utilizes integrated AI and AR capabilities. The approved breakdown features X32 Normal (N), X36 Rare (R), X12 Super Rare (SR), X6 Ultra Rare (UR), X12 Item Cards (Item) and X12 Item Cards Rare (Item) for a total of X86 Character Cards and X24 Item Cards.

Rare Cards are AR-enabled, while Ultra Rare and Super Rare Cards carry the AR gaming capability. Attributes for the cards include ‘Ghost’, ‘Undead’, and ‘Demon’.

All of the Deddy Bears featured on the cards have their own backstories, favorite foods, favorite smells, and even death dates. I received two sample packs for The Deddy Bears Trading Card Game; here’s what I pulled:

Five individual Deddy Bears trading cards laid out on a dark wooden surface alongside a red "How to play DeddyBears TCG" QR code card. Cards pulled include SR Skidmark driving a red car (SR 7000), R PrizzBear in a prison uniform (R 3500), R Youme in a devil outfit (R 4000), N Marshmallow item card, and N Hotpot item card.
Deddy Bears sample pack one

In pack one, I received:

  • 1 SR Skidmark (Demon attribute)
  • 1 R Youme (Ghost attribute)
  • 1 R Prizz Bear (Ghost attribute)
  • 1 N Hotpot (Demon attribute)
  • 1 N Marshmallow (Ghost attribute)
Five Deddy Bears trading cards arranged next to a foil booster pack and a "How to play DeddyBears AR" instruction card. Cards pulled include R Pet Shop Snapps (R 5500), R Phantom Bear (R 3500), R Dr. BearGrave in a lab coat (R 4000), N BulgeBear (N 1000), and N DoodleBear (N 2000).
Deddy Bears sample pack two

In pack two, I received:

  • 1 R Dr. BearGrave (Undead attribute)
  • 1 R Phantom Bear (Ghost attribute)
  • 1 R Snapps (Demon attribute)
  • 1 N DoodleBear (Undead attribute)
  • 1 N BulgeBear (Ghost attribute)

While all of the cards are unique and original Deddy Bear characters, I do see slight resemblances and similarities to media characters I’ve seen in the past. For example, DoodleBear reminds me of DoodleBob from SpongeBob SquarePants, Phantom Bear reminds me of The Phantom of the Opera, Dr. BearGrave reminds me of Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, and Youme’s card literally looks like Baphomet.

The Deddy Bears booth also offered 6-inch plush coffins and 12-inch plush body bags for sale.
