The Unexpected Heroes! – Mugen no Juunin Immortal Ep 17 Review

This is a review of Blade of the Immortal or Mugen no Juunin episode seventeen.

Check out last week’s episode sixteen review here.

The absolute joy I feel at this tumultuous arc finally being over is negated by the reappearance of Renzo and Shira.

I mean seriously – why won’t Shira die? I knew Magatsu didn’t finish him off. Like an absolute cockroach Shira crawled out of the falls and found someone new to abuse – Renzo. Speaking of which… had the poor boy fallen upon hard times after the death of his father? I thought he learned the trade, and how to make money from him.

Unless this was about revenge, I have no clue why Renzo would stay in the company of someone like Shira. And speaking of which – why were the pair even there? Had they heard the rumors of immortality experiments? Or did Shira lurk behind the gang waiting to catch Manji once more?

This may sound cruel, but I truly believe it would have been best if Rin let Manji kill the boy. Now he is another problem that for reasons unknown, Rin never foresaw.

I wonder if this will be a closing plot point, besides the ‘inevitable’ Itto-ryu showdown, despite Rin making friends with its members.

I’m glad Isaku is alive, although I’m not sure how. Doa isn’t sure either, so maybe he has a hint of immortality? It’s unclear.

And since Isaku and Doa have now split ways, we most likely won’t find out until they meet again. If they even meet again.

The last point I’d like to bring up before ending this is the ceremonial favor Doa gave Rin. It’s been a year, she’s nearly seventeen but…are Manji and Rin now in a relationship?

Are they together? Did I miss something?

There has been foreshadowing for this, the working woman asking if Rin was dating Manji or Shira coming to mind but still…when did this happen?

Wasn’t the whole premise that Rin looks like Manji’s deceased kid sister, and that’s why he initially helped her? Then around the time Manji teamed up with Magatsu he spoke of Rin as if he had romantic feelings. Now the two are holding hands and episodes earlier were laying together.

What changed?

Could someone explain this to me? Seriously, I am so confused regarding their relationship.

Finally, some peace. Blade of the Immortal episode 17

Do you think the hinted Rin and Manji romance came out of nowhere? Why is Renzo working with Shira? Do you think Manji will ever get his arm back?
