Baji Was Kinda Cool – Tokyo Revengers Ep 20 Review

Baji gets a flesh wound in the battle between Toman and Valhalla! This is a review and discussion for Episode 20 of the Tokyo卍Revengers anime.

Check out our previous episode review here.

Well, I’ve got to say…that was pretty underwhelming.

Here I was thinking Baji was a whole entire vampire by the way he just ate that stab wound and remarked “tis but a scratch” when asked about it.  I mean…am I wrong for feeling that way?

We had multiple shots of this boy standing like everything was perfectly fine in his clean, white Valhalla jacket. I get appearing ‘strong when you are weak’ and all of that – but shouldn’t we have seen some sort of evidence that he was hit bad?

Especially since Kazutora drove the entire knife up to the hilt into Baji’s lower back? And then to top it all off, Hanma calls Kisaki and mentions that Kazutora failed?

I mean…where is Draken? Wasn’t he just fighting with Hanma? Did Mikey not hear the diabolical phone call taking place sheer inches away from his body?

And I know that Kisaki supposedly saved the day, but…why isn’t anybody asking

“Hey, where was Kisaki this entire fight?”

I know Toman has some critical thinkers in the ranks, even if the captains were tired from their cumbersome battle with Valhalla.

…I don’t know.

I shouldn’t say this, but isn’t this technically Takemitchy and Chifuyu’s fault?

Baji's spotless, clean white Valhalla jacket without a speck of blood after receiving a fatal stab wound from Kazutora. (Also, why is there a tank behind Takemitchy? haha) Tokyo Revengers Episode 20

They stopped Baji from going after Kisaki. Then after a little friendship song and dance from Chifuyu, Kazutora strikes while they are distracted; when Takemichi has Baji retrained.

…Had those two not done all of that, wouldn’t Baji have been halfway up the Shonen junkyard pile by then?

Finally, to top it all off…. those two clowns try to stop Baji, Chifuyu says he can’t hit Baji, then in the next breath Takemichi and Chifuyu agree to try and team up with Baji to beat Kisaki???

Didn’t one of them say that it would be disrespectful to Mikey to go after Kisaki?

I mean…. I’m just not understanding the logic here.

Did I miss something? Did the hype train leave without me?

If those two boneheads do not trust Kisaki, and even had a little mini-investigation arc dedicated to their mutual bond over that mistrust – why on EARTH would you stop the one guy who could take Kisaki in a fight from eliminating him?

It just doesn’t make sense.

How much control does Kisaki have over this plot?

Are you really telling me Baji had no more energy to even just jab forward and stab Kisaki in the throat or something? Man.

I think I’m going to end it here.

I’m posing all of the questions directly above for my questions this week.

Did any of that we just watched make the slightest bit of sense to you? And, are you also tired of a three-minute recap and two-minute intro eating time up in these barely twenty-minute episodes?

I write in my personal time and I haven't published much at all. I don't know if that qualifies me as a writer or not, but I'd like to change that. I have a deep passion for travel, cinema and (mainly) East Asian things, but I plan on writing various things to keep it spicy. Let's prosper together ~ よろしくおねがいします。
