So, 18 episodes in we finally get the reveal of Kage’s true form.
I’ve got to say…it’s kind of scary.
Kage’s True Form Revealed
Kage’s true form reminds me a lot of the boo ghosts from Mario 64. Especially that one in the lower-level hallway of Princess Peach’s Castle that had the world portal in its stomach, and you had to hit to access it?

Yeah, I totally got the same vibes as that.
But, the shadow clan were supposedly a very peaceful people – despite being what seems like the ultimate weapons in time of crisis. I wonder if Kage will be able to revert his form now that it’s been ‘unleashed’ so to speak.
We also got Miranjo’s sad backstory, and for once I’m actually not disgusted by her presence on screen. As for how Bosse and Hiling conceived Daida, I am now wondering just how much older Bosse is than Miranjo.
Or rather, does Miranjo simply age very slowly?
(I can’t remember if the legends say that giants age quickly, or just have extremely long lives and then eventually die.)
It’s very cool that Ousama Ranking has decided to go full fairytale mythology, where we have the ancient gods enslaving humanity.
It reminds me of the origin story of Assassin’s Creed, where the humans rose up against the gods and rebelled for their freedom. Or even more, The Dragon Prince, where humans discovered a type of magic to rival the gods and other magical creatures.

Was anybody else surprised that Desha and Despa’s father was right there along with the other gods enslaving humanity? (And by surprised, I mean not surprised or shocked at all, haha.)
How Did the Old Gods Lose Power?
Is it due to the human’s gaining their brand of magic? Which subsequently drained the ether available from them? Did the gods gain their power through the subjugation of a weaker race? Or, did the constant fighting with the Houma kingdom actually drain and harm them magically, since the same spells being cast at them were originally their own?
So many questions, and so few answers.
If anything, the one takeaway from the conflict between the Houma Kingdom and Gyakuza Kingdom is this: You cannot help people who are not shit, have never had shit, and have never longed to have shit.
It is that simple.
It seems cruel, but in the end Miranjo’s mother, and the Houma Kingdom would have done those savages a kindness by leaving them to their own devices.
Alone, in their primitive mud huts, and alone in their cut-throat nature.
The Gyakuza Kingdom had always been subjugated.

Even with freedom in their grasp, civilization at their doorstep, and all the tools to prosper – in the end they sought to be controlled and dominated once more. For it was in their blood – they did not know how, or rather did not want to live in any other way.
Instead of being grateful to the Houma Kingdom, they mocked and shamed them – ultimately the noble deed of the Houma King became something hateful, their name tarnished and fading into obscurity.
This scenario sounds so similar for some reason, but I can’t put my finger on why… 😌
Anyway, I think I’m going to end it here.
(I need to know what else happens to Kage!)
But, tell me your thoughts.

Why do you think Despa taught Bojji the same Shirasampe technique as Ouken? Did Despa actually train Ouken in this technique before?
And…
What do you think the first ranked kings see when they all pick the same prize?
