I’m so glad that Itsuomi and Yuki’s relationship is doing well because wow, is Shin and Emma’s relationship a complete disaster.

A Sign of Affection Episode 8 Review

I’m almost afraid to see what’s going to happen between Shin and Emma…it’s kind of a lost cause at this point.

Emma is so delusional over believing Itsuomi is still her high school ‘Knight in shining armor’ and Shin has spent all of these years silently resenting Itsuomi and lying to himself about his feelings for Emma.

It just seems like a cycle of low self-esteem and disappointment, at this point.

I mean wow…even Shin’s replacement-for-Emma girlfriend saw right through him and called him out in front of Emma and Itsuomi. Instead of acknowledging those feelings right then and there (which admittedly would be hard) Shin decided to go the extreme opposite route and declare openly that he basically would never date Emma (which we all know is a lie).

Itsuomi realized his buddy liked Emma and decided to never make a move, and even if he was thinking about making a move when he told Shin he “wasn’t interested” in Emma at the time that was now all null and void. But because Shin had the idea that one day Itsuomi might actually want Emma and take her feelings seriously, he continually put his own feelings for Emma on the back burner while trying to maintain a friendship with Itsuomi all while subconsciously resenting him.

I guess that’s why Itsuomi brought Yuki over to Shin’s place, to subtly tell him it’s time he pursues Emma wholeheartedly?

Although it is realistic, I can’t believe they have not once had a conversation about this outside of this situation. I mean even now, it was more a suggestion that Shin should pursue Emma than an open declaration from Itsuomi that he doesn’t want her. Then again, that is a very Japanese way to handle the situation so…

I don’t know.

It’s kind of a poor situation all around and while I’m happy for Yuki and Itsuomi, it seems like they are the only ones who will be happy for a while. The Shin and Emma situation might not change, and judging by the preview Kyouya and Rin might not actually take off as a couple as soon as I thought?

Either way, let me know your thoughts.

Should Shin have been more proactive while pursuing Emma? Should Emma have been less oblivious to Itsuomi’s feelings? Why does it seem like none of these side couples will work out?

Don’t worry, it’s gonna take some time for them. Emma is so lovestruck that she just can’t let go. Its heartbreaking because I know exactly how Emma feels. Unrequited love is one of the most painful things to experience. The manga is already pretty far out to be at least 2nd or 3rd season material. Shin is definitely patient.

    1. Oh man, that’s disappointing to know that Emma still struggles with those feelings for a while. Shin seems like a patient guy. Do you know if it’s been confirmed if we are getting 2-3 more seasons for this? I realized that there’s probably more to the story but never thought about another season after this being animated.

      1. From what I have read, a second season has not been confirmed, BUT the first season covers the first 5 volumes. And there are 10 volumes so far. I really hope they continue the anime.
