I get where Subaru is coming from – but her request was completely out of line, and I’m glad Rintaro politely declined her (selfish) request that he stop meeting with Kaoruko.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 4 Review

I understand that this ridiculous Chidori vs Kikyo rivalry runs deep, but would a faculty member really take away Kaoruko’s scholarship because she talked to a Chidori boy? I know it’s Japan and all, and the schools have a lot of control over their students lives even during off-hours, but I mean c’mon that is a little ridiculous.

I believe Kaoruko should be allowed to spend her off time how she wants. What, would the school ban all Kikyo girls from patronizing Rintaro’s mother’s bakery if they found out her Chidori son works there from time to time?

Would Kikyo students no longer be allowed to go to the library because a Chidori student might also be studying there?

Where do we end this arbitrary rivalry in real-life when it already consumes the student body’s conversations and is proving to have a negative effect on their emotional well-being?

Also, Subaru called Kaoruko her “hero” and said she desired her happiness, only in the next breath to request Rintaro stop seeing her – knowing that Rintaro makes Kaoruko happy.

Knowing that Rintaro does not define himself (anymore) based on the school he attends – and knowing that Subaru also doesn’t judge him this way, she still made that request.

That is wild to me, and childish of her to sit there and cry in a café because her “hero” has a boyfriend and she is misplacing her feelings of jealousy over Rintaro taking Kaoruko’s attention away from her as concern for her well-being as a scholarship student.

I’m glad Rintaro and Usami passed their midterm exams. If Rintaro failed even with Kaoruko’s special compass notebook I would have completely deemed that boy useless and would have given up hope for his character.

While it’s not a great grade – he did pass and I hope Rintaro finds the courage to text (or call) Kaoruko about the good news. He shouldn’t let Subaru get into his head and besides – Kaoruko literally told Rintaro that she wanted to hear about the results after the exam.

Why let all of her hard work go to waste just because of the nonsense Subaru said?

Also, Subaru and Saku must be kindred spirits because Saku is treating Rintaro’s notebook from Kaoruko like it’s a bag of drugs he just found in his desk.

I mean first off – what business is it of Saku’s that Rintaro has a note from a girl on the inside cover of his notebook? Does Rintaro have to tell Saku everything he does?

What is with these weirdly overprotective high school friendships?
