I am so glad that this was the last thing I watched tonight. After two episodes of Mugen back to back, I’m not going to lie I was a little depressed. But our bullies came through and made me laugh! Soga Tsubasa and Takenouchi Shingo were initially my least favorite soft tennis teammates, but they’ve really grown on me.
Plus, shouting moves out like a typical anime character in a fight was so stupid it was hilarious. I don’t blame the Misaki guys for being caught off guard and nervous. It was unpredictable, annoying, and totally their style.
Maki chose some great pairs, because we can finally see the boy’s personalities complimenting their play style. And they did so well! I know they are fictional characters, but I was sitting here watching and checking the countdown timer on the video constantly to make sure we’d get to see everyone play this episode. It’s been a while since I’ve been so invested in an anime. I think Shingeki no Kyojin s3 was the last time.
You know, the Misaki Academy boys are bragging that they aren’t trying, but have you noticed that they are on the ground panting for dear life after each match? They are trying, and really over exerting themselves just to keep up and try and crush our grasshoppers. With enough discipline, and more training, I think team grasshopper could be unstoppable.
The only thing I’m worried about is the school council board in the ending credits. It wasn’t subbed from the source I watched, so I don’t know if it’s something bad that will leave a sour taste in the team’s mouth after this victory. Hoshiai no Sora is bittersweet, realistic, heart-breaking at times, but also very beautiful. It completely captures that awkward moment of time that consists of Middle School.
Yes, the boys did fight a lot before, but they are finally getting it together. I hope no one takes that away from them. Kaori is plotting, the school council is plotting, Misaki Academy is plotting, the track team is plotting, Maki’s father is plotting, Shinjo’s mom is plotting, Rintarou is plotting against himself…they have a lot of obstacles to overcome.
But, I hope they succeed. And if they don’t, it’s okay. They gave it their all, and that’s all that matters. That’s what counts at the end of the day.
