Check out last week’s episode review.
Wow, lots of developments and scheming in this episode.
Let’s get into it:
Does Horikita Get Expelled?

For the moment, it seems like Horikita Suzune is safe from expulsion.
After the bet fell through, Kushida agreed to stop harassing Horikita – but did not confirm that she would stop attempting to get her expelled. It seems like Kushida and Ryuen’s energy going forward will now be devoted to uncovering Ayanokoji as the mastermind – and getting him expelled.
Suzune Checkmates Kushida

I’ve got to hand it to Horikita. I’m glad that for once, she had some foresight concerning Kushida possibly betraying their bet.
Horikita speaking to Chabashira-sensei the day the Paper Shuffle was announced and already making an agreement that she as Class Representative would be the one to submit their answer sheet was genius. I know that she can’t really interfere, but this makes Kushida look bad in Chabashira-sensei’s eyes, as well.
Come to think of it, I don’t even know what they needed Manabu there as witness for if Kushida still technically double-crossed Horikita. Horikita reading “And Then There Were None” book by Agatha Christie does not contain the answers to getting Kushida to like her.
Ayanokoji Checkmates Kushida
I kind of wish we got to see Ayanokoji’s plan to expel Kushida through cheating allegations in motion.

As the mastermind, Ayanokoji struck a deal with Ryuen to setup Kushida. Ryuen did give Kushida Class C’s question sheet, but he was pretty shady while doing so. Kushida, being an ever-arrogant girl, didn’t seem to notice that Ryuen was clearly setting her up.
I’m not sure why Kushida thought she could openly insult Ryuen twice and even hint that he would also make her student expulsion list…and expect no retaliation whatsoever. Although their exchange was brief and simple, Ryuen must have put two and two together and realized that ‘the mastermind’ used Kei in order to plant the answer sheets on Kushida.
A fact I’m almost certain Kushida hasn’t even realized yet.
Ayanokoji seemed shocked that Horikita didn’t need his help and while I’m happy she didn’t – maybe she should have taken his advice about using people to heart. Kushida is never going to work with, or get along with Suzune, ever.
Kushida is a loose cannon that needs to be expelled swiftly and promptly, instead of the talk-no-jutsu Suzune is attempting to use to persuade Kushida.
Does Ryuen Know Ayanokoji is the Mastermind?
While Ryuen does not yet know who the mastermind is, he is getting pretty close.

As mentioned above, Ryuen is now diverting his energies into uncovering Class D’s mastermind – Ayanokoji Kiyotaka.
Although seemingly random, Ryuen pops in on Ayanokoji’s Study Group meeting in a café to discuss strategy for the Paper Shuffle Exams. Using a newly introduced Class C member named Shiina Hiyori to read Yukimura/ Keisei and Ayanokoji’s faces, Ryuen tries to see if either boy responds to his comment about the mastermind email.
Thankfully, Ayanokoji has a better poker face than Horikita.
Hiyori also gives Hasebe a new coffee cup to make up for the one Ryuen crushed. I know later on in the episode it seems Ryuen wants to target Kei, but I can’t help wondering if he will try to use Hiyori to get to Hasebe due to her current proximity to Ayanokoji.
Does Kei Like Ayanokoji?
It is becoming abundantly clear that Karuizawa Kei has a crush on Ayanokoji.
From trying to divert Ayanokoji’s attention away from Sato Maya to stalking him while he stood in front of the discount Family Mart eating ice cream with his group – it seems Kei is desperate for Ayanokoji’s attention.

Despite being in a fake relationship with Kei, Hirata even pointed out to Ayanokoji that he has never seen Kei jealous before over another girl.
Am I the only one who noticed that her face almost lights up whenever Ayanokoji throws a new scheme her way, or another role for her to play with the ultimate goal of undermining Kushida?
Either way, I think I’m going to wrap this one up here.
But, tell me your thoughts.
Do you think Ryuen is getting close to uncovering Ayanokoji’s identity?
Was Manabu necessary to ‘witness’ the bet between Kushida and Suzune?
And…
What do you think Kushida will (attempt) to do to Ryuen now after his ‘betrayal’?
