Makima is once again manipulating Denji by promising her body in exchange for finding the Gun Devil – who may have a special connection to Aki’s backstory.

Hayakawa Aki Backstory
We learn Hayakawa Aki’s backstory and honestly, his words to Denji episodes earlier urging him to quit Public Safety now make sense.

When the two first met, Aki admonished Denji for not taking the duties of devil hunting seriously. Aki was also disgusted that Denji made friends with a devil in the past and did not try to brutally exterminate the fiend he was supposed to during their first mission.
Aki had given Denji advice to quit working at Public Safety because most people don’t last even a year. An exchange between Himeno and Aki elaborated on this notion, where Aki mentioned that everybody either dies or goes private after that time.
It seems Himeno grew cold after losing six partners and decided to even her odds by making a pact with the Ghost Devil. Currently, Aki has a contract with the head of the Fox Devil and may have even more tricks up his sleeve we yet have knowledge of.
Why Did Aki Become a Devil Hunter?

Aki was one of the 1.2 million people who lost loved ones during the Gun Devil’s rampage. Seeking vengeance against the Gun Devil, Aki most likely joined Public Safety as a Devil Hunter in hopes the devil would resurface so that he could get closure for his family’s deaths.
The thing that bothers me about Aki’s backstory is the timing of events within its story.
Aki’s unnamed little brother seemed to be chronically ill and doted on by their parents. Aki asked his father to play catch in the winter snow and was refused. His little brother joined him instead and for whatever reason – their parents didn’t think to put gloves on their chronically ill son’s hands.

Aki suggests his little brother go get the baseball mitt from inside to warm up and as soon as he does, the carnage from the Gun Devil’s attack completely obliterates their home. Which was sad – but I couldn’t help thinking if their parents had just come outside with the boys to play in the woods, they would all still be alive today.
If Aki’s parents even sent the boys outside with proper winter hats and gloves, Aki would most likely still have a little brother and would not have become a devil hunter. I know it’s just a plot device to explain Aki’s conviction to exterminate devils, but man what could have been solved with just decent parenting and dressing for the weather.
Makima Manipulates Denji

I’m still trying to decide if I truly feel bad for Denji or not in this situation. Denji is a teenage boy who cannot control his hormones and Makima is obviously taking advantage of him.
While never explicitly stated, Makima implies that she will sleep with Denji if he kills the Gun Devil. Since Makima has given the virgin Denji a sort of s*xual awakening by nibbling on his finger, he automatically agrees to anything she says without question.

I’m sure Denji might ponder Makima’s reasoning for wanting the Gun Devil dead and possessing large chunks of its flesh (just as Denji was suspicious of Power leading him into a trap but went prepared anyway) later but it might be too late by then.
It doesn’t help that Denji completely trusts Makima because was is the first person to show him an ounce of kindness in his life.
Either way, things aren’t looking good. But, tell me your thoughts –
