Sasuke Uchiha has always been my favorite Naruto character and I was a really big SasuSaku shipper back in the day – so watching the Boruto Sasuke Retsuden arc felt almost obligatory to me.
It is a precious time before Sasuke Uchiha lost all agency in the Boruto anime and simply became “Sakura’s Husband”.
Wow, I haven’t tuned into a Boruto episode since 218 when Kurama died.
Before that, I watched when Boruto and Sasuke traveled back in time to stop Urashiki Otsutsuki during the Time Slip Arc. Other than those two events revolving around the original cast and some snippets on YouTube of the old characters with their kids, I have no clue what goes on in the Boruto world.
Sasuke’s Story: Infiltration
Naruto is suffering from a mysterious illness that afflicted the Sage of Six Paths.
The Sage spent much of his time in a small village located in the Land of Redaku, currently in political turmoil due to the death of their king and an ongoing famine. Kakashi was sent to gather intel and find the library the Sage of Six Paths used while there, but gets caught up and has to pretend to be young Prince Nanara’s tutor as a cover.
Sasuke goes to visit Naruto and sees that he’s clearly suffering, and decided to go undercover as a prisoner to access the observatory.
Sasuke Fights a Dinosaur
The Prime Minister has seized control of Redaku and sent away Prince Nanara to the nearby Nagare Village. Nanara’s older sister Princess Manari is being manipulated or controlled to go along with the Prime Minister’s plan of raiding another village and resettling to steal their resources.
Despite planning to leave the village, Director Zansul is forcing prisoners into hard labor for an observatory they wouldn’t need if they were abandoning the site.
Sasuke notices something is off with Director Zansul’s eyes, and that genjutsu doesn’t work on him or his supposed summon, the dragon beast Meno.
While attempting to find the Sage of Six Paths old records, Sasuke encounters and fights the dinosaur in a corridor. The next day at breakfast, he observes that the dinosaur is back at full health – watching him from below in the fields.
Director Zansul then walks up behind Sasuke and threatens him before we switch to Kakashi walking into a gigantic library and finding the one book aptly named “Manuscript of Six Paths” with ease.
I’m not sure why the King suddenly died or why the Prime Minister wanted the library sealed off, but that sounds like a hostile takeover if I ever heard of one. Not sure if Kakashi finding the book so quickly is supposed to be a misdirect, and judging by the previews Sakura is showing up in next week’s episode.
So, I guess we’ll talk again then. ☺

Is Director Zansul able to sustain the Meno summon (if it is one) for an extended period of time because he has Uzumaki blood like Naruto and Karin?
