I know we did not just get a cliffhanger on the conversation where Subaru admits she’s been meddling in Kaoruko’s affairs behind her back. *sigh*

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 5 Review

I really wanted to see that convo. Judging by the fact that Subaru is already crying, I’m wondering if she told the school or somebody already in an effort to keep Kaoruko away from Rintaro.

Subaru also didn’t seem too happy when Kaoruko referred to the place she saved her at as a child as a park she “hadn’t been to in a while”. Clearly that was a life-defining moment that Subaru has made her whole identity up until this point. Which would explain why Subaru is so possessive of Kaoruko and borderline worships her as a “hero” instead of just treating Kaoruko as a peer, and friend.

If that even is what is going on with their friendship right now.

On a healthier note, Saku realized how lame he was being about Rintaro not wanting to elaborate further on how he knows Kaoruko. (or the fact that he didn’t even know Kaoruko left him a note and probably wanted to read it in private without the entire class eavesdropping on his business). Usami seems like a harmless idiot, but Yorita was able to talk Saku down from the ledge of teenage edginess and remind him that Rintaro did tell them how he really felt about the Kaoruko situation.

Although, Saku was completely correct in thinking that Rintaro doesn’t trust their lot – Rintaro even said as much to himself at karaoke! So Saku does actually have a good grasp on the nature of their relationship, especially after he (also) probably realized Rintaro lied when he told Saku it was thanks to his sole help that he passed midterms, when it was Kaoruko and her study notebook that gave him the extra confidence to pass.

I wonder if Kaoruko is going to put on a disguise and try to watch the Chidori boys play baseball during their Sports Festival? Also she never mentioned it, but I guess Kaoruko passed her exams.

Last episode Rintaro remembered that Kaoruko looks happiest when she’s eating, and this episode Kaoruko said that she eats something whenever she’s sad.

Judging by the amount of cakes she eats (aside from them being an excuse to just see Rintaro or her just liking the bakery pastries) it makes me wonder now if Kaoruko is actually happy with exhausting herself academically to maintain her ranking and scholarship position as a Kikyo student?

If Subaru really wanted to help her “hero” out, she could talk to Kaoruko as a friend, instead of trying to fix her “perfect life” as an idol.

But, tell me your thoughts: do you think Kaoruko is secretly unhappy academically because trying to maintain the top position stresses her out?

How do you think Kaoruko will take the news that Subaru is trying to meddle in her affairs?
