Wow, it’s good to be back after all of these years.
Log Horizon was the first isekai I fell in love with before even know what the genre was about.
I remember being so excited about a new season of LH coming out after six years. I planned on re-watching season one and two, and doing weekly reviews when the show first premiered.
…Then Attack on Titan the Final Season came out and I was so enamored by that story, I kept putting off this series to review.
Finally, this morning I just decided to bite the bullet and watch a few succinct review cap videos that only took about an hour to rejog my memory. Before that, all I could remember about Log Horizon was the moon, for some reason.
Eager to start the next part of the story after years of anticipation, I clicked on the video after finishing up my AOT review for the day (it is Attack on Titan Sunday, after all) and dug into it. And…
It was a bit underwhelming.
I’ve got no problem with Princess Rayneshia, but I can’t say I really cared too much about her marriage announcement. Especially since I thought she and the guild master of D.D.D. Krusty had a thing.
Then that creepy dude who resembles a marionette just shows up again after getting chased out of Akiba in embarrassment the first time he showed his face. And to top it all off, he’s the one delivering the bad news to Rayneshia.
Which by the way – I forgot just how many characters are in this story.
It felt like every time I blinked, a new person was on my screen with their own backstory, motives, and goals. Again, that’s not something I mind…I kind of enjoy a revolving cast of interesting characters a la A Song of Ice and Fire series…if that’s not too taboo to mention.
It makes the world feel even more alive than it already is.
(Did George give up on writing the books? Now I have the sudden urge to check his Twitter feed. Because we all know he’s only talking about Wild Cards on his notablog…*sigh* and now I made myself sad again.)
Anyway, I think so many characters bother me because it’s been so long and MAL only has space for so many names under the cast list. ☺
And since I’m complaining a teensy-weensy bit, does the animation seem off to anyone else?
I’m not one to really criticize the depiction of an adaptation (mainly because animators work really hard on anime. Another reason is because I have the artistic drawing ability of a fruit pie.) but I find myself missing the thicker, chunky lined style of past seasons.
Akatsuki seems to have a bobble-head look going on as well in certain scenes due to the camera’s perspective.
Maybe I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s been almost ten years since the original came out, and techniques along with stylistic choices of Japanese animation have changed.
So…I should just get with the times.
Slower pacing aside, I really am excited to play catch up and watch the next two episodes.
I wonder if this is going to be the whole season, though?
The whole Rayneshia marriage dilemma can only go on for so long…right? Then there is the Duke Eins problem, and the irony that his guild is named Honesty when he’s been pretty shady since season two.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just overthinking it?
