Netflix’s Adult Animation Slate

Netflix has unveiled many groundbreaking adult animated shows and massive hits to global audiences over the past 10 years. Netflix animated shows that have impacted pop culture include: BoJack Horseman, Arcane, Big Mouth, Love Death + Robots, Devil May Cry, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Blue Eye Samurai.

Love, Death + Robots volume 4 and Arcane season 2 were recently just nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Sound Editing for an Animated Program. Actress Maya Rudolph has been recognized in the Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance category with 6 nominations for her work on Big Mouth from 2020 – 2025.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch

Starring Liev Schreiber as Sam Fisher, this first-ever adaptation of the acclaimed stealth video game follows Fisher, a black ops agent working for a US government division called the Fourth Echelon. Fisher is drawn back into the field when a young wounded operative seeks out his help.

The Splinter Cell: Deathwatch series is produced by Ubisoft Film & Television alongside animation studios Sun Creature and Fost. The executive producers are Kolstad and Hélène Juguet, Hugo Revon, and Gérard Guillemot for Ubisoft. The head writer is Derek Kolstad (John Wick) and it’s directed by Guillaume Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2

Set in the Edo period of Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise while seeking the deliverance of revenge.

Blue Eye Samurai was created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, who also serve as executive producers and writers on the production. The show is animated by Blue Spirit, and Erwin Stoff is an executive producer while Jane Wu is supervising director and producer.

The Voice cast includes Maya Erskine as Mizu, George Takei as Seki, Masi Oka as Ringo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as The Swordmaker, Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, and Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler.

Supporting voice cast includes Stephanie Hsu as Ise, Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki, amongst other talent.

Leviathan

Set in a war-torn reimagining of 1914, Leviathan follows Alek, a fugitive prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Deryn Sharp, a daring young girl disguised as a boy to serve in the British Air Service.

When fate throws them together aboard the HMS Leviathan, a massive, living airship made from genetically engineered creatures, they embark on a world-changing adventure that will challenge everything they know about war, loyalty, and identity.

The story follows two best friends, Yoshiki and Hikaru, who live in a rural Japanese village. Growing up they were inseparable, until the day Hikaru came back down from the mountains and was no longer himself. “Something” foreign had taken over his body, memories, and feelings as everything around them begins to unravel.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity

This story unfolds in a particular town where two infamous schools are in constant dispute: Chidori High, a boys’ school primarily attended by students with challenging academic records, and its neighbor, Kikyo Girls’ High, known for its students hailing from wealthy and prestigious families.

One day, Rintaro Tsumugi, a second-year student at Chidori with a fierce appearance but a gentle heart, is assisting at his family’s patisserie when he meets a customer named Kaoruko Waguri. Rintaro cherishes his interactions with Kaoruko, as she doesn’t judge him based on his looks.

However, this serene connection is abruptly shaken when Rintaro discovers that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo. This revelation sets the stage for their challenging journey, as they strive to overcome the societal barriers imposed by their schools and environment, seeking to carve out their own path.
