I really enjoyed this episode! We got a deeper exploration of Rintaro and Kaoruko’s relationship, and set up for their study date next week. ☺︎

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 3 Review

This episode was adorable! I don’t miss having to study for exams, but whenever I’m watching anime or playing RPGs like Persona 5: Royal, I kind of get jealous that in America, we don’t really have a culture of teenagers sitting at a family-style restaurant for hours just to study.

We’d either be forced to keep buying things, or get “kicked out” after a specific time period of sitting down. I know places like the Shibuya study Diner and Big Bang Burger exist in real life (based on what restaurants they were modeled after) and I don’t eat meat, but at the very least if I ever visit Japan I’d love to go to one.

Kaoruko’s onigiri she shared with Rintaro looked really good as well, as did the snacks Subaru got for the girls despite not being able to eat in the library.

Wow, can you tell I’m hungry while writing this? Haha.

Anywho ~ I wonder where Rintaro and Kaoruko will go for their study date? They are meeting up by the train station, so it doesn’t seem like they are going to the library to study. Then again, I have no clue where these students live in relation to the joint school campus and their shared library, so in retrospect they could be going there.

Although, I think they would like to spend time together somewhere more special.

It was nice meeting another one of Kaoruko’s friends, as well.

Maybe it’s because I’m watching The Summer Hikaru Died this season, but behind the comical overprotective defense of Kaoruko by Subaru when Usami just stretched his hand out to her, I was wondering if she had a secret crush on her.

Not to mention, Subaru was staring at a picture of her and Kaoruko when they were children with teary eyes. I don’t think this anime is going the yuri route, so I’m just going to guess that Subaru is overly protective of Kaoruko in front of the “delinquent boys” because something bad could have happened to her in the past.

(Or Subaru was simply bullied for being a haafu, or foreigner by her peers before attending Kikyo.)

Not to mention, the Chidori vs Kikyo rivalry seemed to be at play, since Subaru was worried about Kaoruko even being seen talking to a Chidori guy.

It’s kind of funny that Rintaro’s friend group still hasn’t put together the fact that Kaoruko and Rintaro must know each other. This is the second time those two have been in the same vicinity as one another, and both won’t really say why they keep ending up together when asked by their friends.

I know the first time Kaoruko technically could have just been waiting for anybody in front of the Chidori High School, but when else have people from both schools been seen together – or the same two students in the same situation, twice now?

The way both parties act, you’d think students from either school had never shared a proper conversation together.

I guess Kaoruko is an outlier to the dogma of hating Chidori because she’s technically an ordinary girl who just pushed herself academically so that she could keep her scholarship to attend the school?

But, tell me your thoughts: Where do you think Rintaro and Kaoruko will go for the study date next week?
