This is a First Impressions review of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, or Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi, episode one.
Back to the Feudal Era: Yashahime Episode 1 Brings Pure Inuyasha Nostalgia
I’ve always had really fond memories of this series, even if I don’t remember much of what happened in the original run. Which was okay, because episode one of Yashahime gave us a really nice recap – character names and little bios included!

It was also just great to see the characters back on my screen, drawn with the (arguably) higher-quality animation of our time. Of course, it would be ridiculous to assume their problems would be solved so quickly. But it was nice to see their little banter going back and forth again.

The Root Head Ayakashi & The Classic Crew Tag-Team
The Root Head ayakashi was still alive at the end of the Inuyasha-Kagome-Sango and Miroku tag-team duel, so it seems like whatever is going on has to do with him.
Although I keep thinking about how Kaede-san’s now cryptic “I’m sure Kagome will be fine without Kikyo’s powers” really does raise some questions. I know in the official art Kagome wasn’t there, and Inuyasha was staring at the sacred tree. And of course, despite six months passing from the end of the original Inuyasha series, Kikyo’s ghost is still the elephant in the room.
Upgraded Animation: Middle School Adult Swim Memories Reimagined
I think I shared this a long time ago now, but Inuyasha, along with Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, were two shows I chiefly watched back in middle school on Adult Swim at night.
That period of time was particularly rough, and I stayed up often because I couldn’t sleep…dreading the new days that would come, and school, and everything else that made me miserable at that time.
I’m really glad I can almost experience the show again in a new way, now when I am in a much better place in my life. I’m happy, and I’m glad those memories of sadness that used to be associated with Inuyasha can now be reset.
Unraveling the Sequel Mystery: Where Are Kagome & Inuyasha?
Wow, Yashahime episode one told us absolutely nothing about Inuyasha and Kagome! Haha. Seriously though, I feel like the preview for episode two gave us the recap I thought we would get this episode. No worries, though. I’m sure it will all start to make sense by episode five.
The Lone Half-Demon: Why Is Moroha Alone?
Anywho, it seems Moroha might be an orphan, or something. She was introduced alone in the preview carrying one of three colorful pearls, so something happened to the old crew – especially the women.
Don’t know if they were sealed by the sacred tree, trapped in a well, in another dimension, etc. – but we’ll find out soon enough.
Sacred Trees & Missing Power: What the Bone-Eater’s Well Is Hiding
Interesting premise! Was great to revisit old beloved characters, and overall a strong season premiere for Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon. I don’t think I’ll be doing weekly reviews of this show (I’m waiting to review Attack on Titan Season 4 in December and Log Horizon: Entaku Houkai Season 3 in January of next year), but I’ll definitely keep watching (almost) every week!
