Perfectionism is a Double-Edged Sword

The effects of perfectionism in writing and personal expression.

Perfectionism is a double-edged sword.

While you are waiting and trying to make that post, write that story, record that podcast, edit that video to complete perfection – someone else has already posted it.

While you are waiting for the right moment, somebody else already chose today.

The need to be ‘perfect’ is something I’ve struggled with greatly.

Because of this silly perfectionism, I’ve lost many great moments and wasted so much time waiting and saying ‘what if’.

So if anyone else needed to hear this: the perfect time is now.

Post what you want, do what you want and make your heart happy.

Because there’s no time like the now.

I write in my personal time and I haven't published much at all. I don't know if that qualifies me as a writer or not, but I'd like to change that. I have a deep passion for travel, cinema and (mainly) East Asian things, but I plan on writing various things to keep it spicy. Let's prosper together ~ よろしくおねがいします。

  1. This is so very true! I haven’t necessarily lost chances, I have definitely been one to do them last because I “just haven’t perfected I yet”. Greta reminder to put what we do out there and not hold off!

  2. I don’t think perfectionism is a good thing, I actually believe there’s no such as perfect because what may be perfect to you is flawed to another! Honestly my inspiration comes from my grandad who tells me do what you want because someone will always have something to say about it no matter what!

  3. I have struggled with and sometimes still struggle with perfectionism. I go through phases where nothing is good enough while the rest of the time everything is good enough. It is a balance for me, one I try to stay on by doing what I love in the most honest way it reflects what I love. I am all about, I have discovered, imperfect perfection. 🙂

  4. This spoke to me in so many ways! I used to think that everything had to be perfect to be published or had to have a perfect idea to write about, but realised after a long time that perfection was just a fixed stereotype that didn’t have to have that much power over me. Thanks for sharing x
